Weimaraner

Description
The Weimaraner is a hunting dog that was bred to hunt large game like deer, bears, or boars in the early 19th century. In the later years as the desire to hunt big game subsided he was used to hunt smaller game such as rabbits and water fowl. The Weimaraner male stands between 24 and 27 in. tall females stand between 22 and 25 in. tall. Males weigh between 55 and 70 lbs. females weigh between 50 and 65 lbs. They have striking amber colored eyes that go together exquisitely with the blue-gray or all gray short coat. His ears, and are a shade or so lighter than the rest of his body color.
Temperament
He will need a firm, but gentle Pack leader, early socialization, and proper training in order for you to be successful with this breed as a family pet. He is extremely exuberant by nature, and in not recommended for families with small children or very elderly people. He is a smart dog and loyal to his family. He loves to learn new things and grows bored if the lessons tend to repeat. He is a hunting dog with a strong drive to…hunt so small furry animals in the home may be in jeopardy.
Grooming/Exercise
Easy to groom the Weimaraner need little more than a good brushing with a stiff bristled brush, and a occasionally bath using gentle soap. For added shine give his coat a rub down with a chamois. The Weimaraner needs a great deal of exercise, and would do nicely with a jogging partner. They also need a secure area to run and play. They can live in a townhouse as long as you can provide them with the amount of exercise that they need.
Health
Life Expectancy is 10 to 12 years.
