Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka

Description

Russia historically has never been one to produce a toy breed of dog…the mentality being that if it didn’t do its share of work around the farm why have it. After the fall of the Iron Curtain this little dog emerged… Tsvetnaya Blolonka, but after thorough research it is possible that the dog has been around since the early 18th century. Rumour has it that small long hair dogs were given as gift to the Russian Royalty from Louis IV. This dog evolved into a small curly coated breed known as the Fransuka. The Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka of today’s ancestry goes back the the French Bolonki that migrated with Napoleon’s army. Bolonoki have a almost square body, and a long glossy coat full of curls with a luxurious undercoat. For the most part they have a dark brown or black coat. The are 7.5 to 9.75 in tall at the withers and weigh around 4lbs and up. Due to the inconsistency and newness with this breed size and color can vary.

Temperament

A happy little dog, non agressive, and gets along nicely with other dogs as well as other animals in the home. Forms deep attachment to his owner.

Grooming/Exercise

Regular combing and brushing of the coat should be done to keep it free of matts pay special attention to the mustache, and beard to keep it free of food. Bathe only when needed making sure to thoroughly dry your Blolonka so he doesn’t catch a chill. Exercise for this tiny toy should mean a daily walk in a secure environment, and some games like fetch.

Health

Life Expectancy…considering the newness of the breed very little information is found on this dog. I would say as with most toy breeds if in good health they should live into there teens. Regular check ups for dental and health, and keeping current on all vaccinations is advisable.
