Polish Lowland Sheepdog

Description

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog is sometimes referred to an abbreviated version of his name “PONS”. The Lowland sheepdog is a hard breed that evolved from Asian corded herding dogs and smaller longer coated herding dogs from mountainous regions. The end of World War II saw the breed on the verge of extinction, but breed enthusiast managed to turn that around and brought the breed back from the brink. Originally bred for herding today’s Lowland Sheepdog makes a fine companion, tracking, and therapy dog. The Lowland Sheepdog has a muscular body with a long woolly coat that usually come in white with black or grey. They have brown or hazel eyes, and when you lift the hair from their eyes you can see that. Males stand between 18 to 20 in. tall and females between 17 to 19 in. tall.  They weight between 30 to 35 lbs.

Temperament

The Lowland Sheepdog has a keen memory. He is jovial, intelligent, loyal, and loving. The Lowland Sheepdog should have early socialization in order to be a success as an active member of the family, and if properly socialized he will do well with the children of the home (if raised with them), and other family pets. He will do well with other dogs as long as they are not of a dominant mind. They will need a strong pack leader to train them.Remember he is a working do and is at his best when he has a job to do.

Grooming/Exercise

He will need thorough, and extensive brushing at least once a week to keep his long coat free from debris, and tangles. The Lowland Sheepdog is not well suited to city living, and needs much room to run. Unless you can donate a large amount of time for his exercise this is not the dog for you. He will not do well living in a apartment or townhouse he needs a home with a very large secured yard, or even acreage.
