American Pitbull Terrier

Description

During the mass immagration of the 1800’s along with the throngs of people came their dogs English Bull Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. These dogs were then bred to be bigger and sturdier more adapted to  farm life in as much as they were bred for fighting in the cities. These dogs were eventually called the American Pitbull Terrier, and they were also known as the “All American Dog”. The American Pitbull stands between 18 and 22 in. tall and weighs anywhere from 22 to 110 lbs when full grown.  They have a short and smooth coat that comes in a wide variety of colors anything from red to blue. There noses can also be of a different color.

Temprament

This dog is eager to please his owner, and it will take you being a firm and confident pack leader to make this dog into a happy, well adjusted family pet. This much maligned breed is not the horrible monster that some would like you to believe. He is a dog that with proper training and socialization can be a active member of the family…loving and loyal. He is a courageous and intelligent dog that will also make a wonderful guard dog.

Grooming/Exercise

Pitbulls have a short, smooth coat that needs to be regularly brushed with a firm bristle brush to help reduce shedding. Only needing to be bathed on occasion and a good towel drying. To make their coats shiny use a chamois for a good rub down. Pitbulls will do o.k. in apartments as long as their daily exercise needs are taken care of, but would do even better if they have a secure yard to play in. Pitbulls should have long daily walks with you in charge even if they have access to a yard.
