Parson Russell Terrier

Description
This little charmer came from white foxing terriers at the end of the 19th century. They are the taller version of the Jack Russell Terrier, but a separate breed nonetheless. The Parson Russell Terrier is a small white dog with brown or black spots. Tradition dictates the tails are docked to 3 to 4 in…exactly long enough to firmly grab if you have to pull your dog out of a varmint hole. Their coats are either smooth or broken. They are 13 to 14 in. tall at the shoulder and ideally weigh around 13 to 17 lbs. They are a study dog without being bulky and have endurance and strength in their compact little bodies. They have a well proportioned head, and are very keen and alert. The ear flaps fold over and cover the inside of the ear, and point toward the eye. A flat head, strong muzzle, and jaws.
Temperament
This little guy has it all…intelligence, independence, energy to burn, friendly, and loving. Ideally he is a active member of the family, and he is in his element when he is allowed to participate in family activities. They won’t do well with small children or very young children, but are fine with older kids. They will however do very well with cats if raised around them…not so good however around rabbits, hamsters and the like. A good person for this dog is someone who has the same personality traits, and can be firm and constant in training.
Grooming/Exercise
Brushing and Bathing as needed are all the Parson needs. What they lack in grooming needs they make up for in the exercise department…they need brisk walks more than once a day, and plenty of secure yard to run around in. This dog will not do well in an apartment.
