Description

The Norbottenspets is also known as the Nordic Spitz, or Pohjanpystykorva is an old breed of Swiss Farm dog who was used to hunt Moose, and Grizzly Bear, and guard the family farm. The Norbottenspets has also been used as a sled dog. The breed was very close to extinction in 1948, but has made somewhat of a recovery. It is still very rare even in its homeland. They have a very thick medium short coat that comes basically all white with patches of color (yellow, brown or red).

Temperament

This is a very spirited dog with a lot of energy. He can be very lovable with his family. You will need to be this dogs pack leader, and socialize him very early on in order to have success with him as a member of the family. He will get along nicely with his own kind. He has a prey drive, and may or may not get along with cats in the home. Quick of mind and intelligent he will train well…with patience.

Grooming/Exercise

He will need to be brushed on a weekly basis to help reduce the amount of shedding, and to keep his coat healthy. Bathe him only as needed. Keep his nails trimmed. He will need a fair amount of exercise, and daily walks are just a small part of it…he will need a secure place where he can run and play off leash. He can live in an apartment as long as you can give him the exercise he needs to stay happy and healthy.
