Kyi Leo

Description
The Kyi Leo is recognized by the American Rare Breed Association. It must have been a love match back in 1950’s San Francisco when a Lhasa Apso and Maltese decided to start a family. The end result and careful breed since then have resulted in today’s Kyi Leo…or Lion Dog. The Kyi Leo stands 8 to 12 in. tall at the withers (breed preference is 9 to 11 in.), and weighs between 9 to 14 lbs. They have a nice long and thick coat that has a natural part down the center of their backs. The coat matures slowly and it may take up to 4 years to reach its full potential. Almost 100% of Kyi Leos are black and white, and on occasion they will change color to silver or gray and white.
Temperament
The Kyi Leo is a good family dog for the right family. You have to be this dogs gentle but firm pack leader all the time, and children must know how to play kindly with the dog, and also how to show leadership when playing with the dog or walking the dog. The Kyi Leo is good with other family pets and dogs. The Kyi Leo is very playful, happy and alert. He is very loving towards his family, and eager to please. They can be noisy if early socialization of friend and visitors is not seen to.
Grooming/Exercise
The Kyi Leo will need to be brushed and combed on a daily basis to keep their coat free from tangles and debris. The Kyi Leo will need to be taken on daily walks, and have a healthy amount of play time in a secure area to keep them in shape. The Kyi Leo will do well living in a apartment or townhouse as long as you take care of their exercise needs.
