Description

This tiny toy terrier was developed in Germany in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs Biewer (pronounced Bee-vir). The breed baiscally happend when they bred two of their Yorkshire Terriers (“Darling von Friedheck” and “Fru Fru von Friedheck”) that carried the same recessive piebald gene which gives them their parti colored coats. This breed was been recognized by the American Rare Breed Association in December of 2007. The Biewer stands just under 9 inches tall and weighs a tad under 7 lbs. They come in a few color choices black or blue with white. The coat is long enough to touch the ground, and is perfectly straight…this coat is not at all course or woolly but described more like silk, and very shiny.

Temperament

Biewer has plenty of love, and energy. He makes a fantastic companion dog. or a family dog for a family with older children. They need to be properly socialized and have a firm pack leader so they don’t develop some behaviour issues such as barking an nipping. Not at all fond of strangers and aggressive toward other dogs these issues can also be dealt with with early on socialization.

Grooming/Exercise

Bierwer Terriers need a daily brushing to keep his coat in good condition. placing the hair on the head in a top knot to keep it clean is recommended. With this little toy you should have the teeth checked and cleaned a a regualr basis. The Bierwer will need daily walks, but will get the majority of his exercise in play. He will do well living in a townhouse, as long as he is engaged in play and taken on walks to fill his exercise needs.

Health

Life Expectancy is between 12 to 15 years.

Possible Health Issues

Digestive Issues (sensitive tummies)

Herniated Disks

Susceptible to Fractures due to injuries.

Early Tooth Decay
