Description

The Alaskan Klee Kai ( Miniature Alaskan Husky) is a fairly new breed that originated in Wasilla, Alaska back in the early 70′s. Increasing in popularity their numbers are on the rise. They come in 3 sizes…Standard: which is 15 to 17.5 in. tall and weighing up to 23 lbs. Toy: Under 13 in. tall and under 10 lbs., and Miniature: 13 to 15 in. tall and weighs approximately 15 lbs. Like any Husky they have a soft woolly undercoat and a coarser top coat. They come in a variety of colors Grey and white, black and white, muted shades of both, and on rare occasions white and red (cinnamon or auburn). All white is not registrable and tri-colored are not allowed in the show ring.

Temperament

Curious and quick. Highly intelligent and agile. The Klee Kai make wonderful family pets, and will do well with children who are mindful of the dog. This dog will not take kindly to being mistreated. They are not unlike there larger cousins the Husky in having a strong prey drive…they may not do well with smaller furry pets (cat, hamster, rabbit) in the home. Due to their high intelligence, and activity level they do well in Agility training, and Obedience classes.

Grooming/Exercise

An average shedder this breed should be brushed on a regular basis to help keep their coats healthy. To keep them in good physical shape they should be taken for long daily walks. They can live in townhouses, but should have a small secure yard to play in.
