The Glen Imaal Terrier first registered with the AKC in 2004. He comes equipped with a all weather coat with a much softer undercoat, and in a variety of colors…Wheaten, Blue or Blue Brindle. The Glen Imaal Terrier stand between 13 and 14 in. in height at the withers and weighs in somewhere around 35 lbs.
Temperament
A happy dog for the most part. The Glen Imaal is a smart dog with a gentle disposition. He has a high energy level and adores playing a wide variety of games. Loyal and loving towards his owner he would do best with older children not being overly fond of young ones. He makes a wonderful watchdog sounding the alarm is something seems to be wrong. Through early socialization he will learn to get along with other family pets such as cats, otherwise there could be problems of him chasing them. He will most likely not do well with other household critters like hamsters, or rabbits. Keep in mind he is a hunter.
Grooming/Exercise
The Glen Imaal will need to be brushed on a regular basis, and his beard should be washed daily to keep it free from food debris (after meals works good for this). Bathe him only when needed, and routinely check his ears and keep them clean. The Glen Imaal is a is a Terrier and that means he has a fair amount of energy and would do nicely with quick paced long walks with you as the dominant pack leader. They can do well in apartments as long as they are given the amount of exercise they need to stay healthy.
