Entlebucher Mountain Dog

Description
Descendant of Molossers brought to Switzerland by the Romans in the first century B.C. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog was named for the village of Entlebuch in Luncerne Switzerland where it was used for herding cattle. Entlebuchers are closely related to the Bernese Mountain Dog, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, and the Appenzell Mountain Dog. Until 1913 there was no breed distinction between the Appenzell the Entlebucher, and the first breed club wasn’t started until 1926. The Entlebucher is between 16 and 20 in. tall and weighs in at 55 to 66 lbs. He has a beautiful tri colored, short, hard coat usually with a white blaze running down his chest. The tan colored fur always runs between the black and white. The Entlebucher is a strikingly handsome, hard working dog.
Temperament
This is a hard working dog that loves to be part of the family, and will not do well left alone in a backyard. He needs to be a part of the family. He is loyal, and devoted to his master, and it has been rumored that some have died of broken hearts when their masters pass away. Not fond of strangers. With proper socialization will get along with other dogs. Extremely intelligent he responds well to training, and needs to have regular training and daily activity. He makes a fantastic watch dog, and they are protective, but not so much aggressive.
Grooming/Exercise
Outside of a good brushing with a stiff bristle brush the Entelbucher needs very little in the grooming department, but wants it…The Entlebucher enjoys a vigorous brushing. In order for the Entlebucher to stay in shape he will need daily walks and regular exercise. He would do best to live with a family that has work for him to do…No apartment living here. Etlebuchers need room to run, and a job to do.
