Dalmatian

Description
From the Country of Croatia, and the Dalmatia region comes the Dalmatian dog. But it is said that the breed was developed in England. The Dalmatian was fairly much a multi purpose dog not only have they been used for a variety of hunting tasks, but also as dogs of war guarding the borders of Dalmatia. We best know the Dalmatian of today as being a mascot for the Firemen. The male Dalmatian stands between 22 and 24 in. tall. Females stand between 20 and 22 in. tall. Dalmatian weighs on average 55 lbs. The Dalmatian has a short, thick, and hard coat, and is white with spots. The spots can be liver, black, dark blue, lemon, tri-colored, or brindle…sometimes the dog can be solid white or sable.
Temperament
The Dalmatian needs a lot of direction from you his pack leader. Lots of early on socialization is important for a well adjusted family dog. They are a very active dog and need to have something to do physically and mentally. Not a good dog for a family with small children, but would do great with an active family with older children. They will get along nicely with other family pets. Should be included in family outings as they have a great deal of stamina.
Grooming/Exercise
You will need to brush your Dalmatian on a daily basis to keep up on the amount of hair he will shed. They do need to be bathed on occasion. The Dalmatian needs to go for daily walks. He also would do well with a jogging partner. He also will need a safe secure area to run and play in. Dalmatians are not a good dogs to house in an apartment or townhouse they simply require more room to run.
