Training Your Cocker Spaniel Puppy

Cocker Spaniels are very easy to train and just want to make you happy.  They love spending time with people so training routines won’t be like pulling teeth.  They are very interested in people more so than other dogs so making sure they have good social skills is a must especially if you want to take your puppy around with you.  Obedience training would be very easy with this dog breed since they catch on quickly and are pretty focused and alert.

Your puppy training techniques need to be correct, consistent and precise.  If not, they won’t take you seriously and may develop bad behavioral problems.  It’s easiest for the both of you to be stern and make sure they develop good manors.  It’s much harder to break bad habits than it is to teach good ones.

A daily exercise routine will keep your cocker spaniel happy and if they are well exercised, they are less likely to get into things and misbehave.

You can also look into crate training your puppy.  Make sure the crate is big enough for them to stand up, lay down and turn around in.  This is a good technique to use especially while they are unsupervised.  This will keep them from going in the house.  As puppies, their food goes through them faster so after they are done eating their meal, step outside to the designated area you have chosen for them and make sure they do their business and when they do, reward them with love and attention or even better, a treat!
