Temperament

The Carolina Dog is a primitive dog and survives due to natural selection not refined breeding. Not a stereotypical domesticated dog considering his next of kin are still wild. They are not good with people, or other pets in the home unless thoroughly socialized at an extremely young age. They can become wonderful companion dogs with time and work. He can become part of a family as he needs to fulfil his desire to be part of a pack. You must be a confident pack leader to this dog if your are going to have any success. He will do well with children, and enjoys being in on their adventures. He is clean, but will test your patience when it comes to housebreaking.

Grooming/Exercise

Carolina dogs are very low maintenance and will do with an occasional grooming…bathe only when needed. Carolina Dogs will need to go for daily walks with you in charge and being a strong pack leader. They also need a safe place to run and play. This is not a dog for someone who lives in a townhouse or apartment. They need space and lots of it.
