Boston Terrier

Description

The Boston Terrier was the very first non sporting dog bred in the United States. In the beginning the breeds colors and marking weren’t very important, but somewhere in the early 1900’s the Bostons distinctive color and markings were written into the AKC breeds standards making them crucial feature. The Boston Terrier stands between 15 to 17 in. tall at the withers, and can weigh anywhere between 10 to 25 lbs…They were bred down in size from the pit fighting size they were which was right about 44 lbs. The Boston has a short coat that comes in black and white, brown and whit or brindle and white.

Temperament

The Boston Terrier is a dutiful student and enjoys learning new things, and learns his lessons well. He needs a firm pack leader to teach him, and train him so he doesn’t develop any bad habits. The Boston makes a wonderful companion to seniors, as well as families. For the most part they get along really well with any other pets in the home. They are friendly with strangers, and loving to their owners.

Grooming/Exercise

Grooming is simple with the Boston. Brush with a good stiff bristled brush, and bathe him only as needed. The face should be washed daily with a damp wash cloth…be very careful washing around the eyes. The Boston needs to keep in top form. Daily walks will help to keep him in shape, but you will also need to give him time off leash to run and play. Make sure you have a secure area for this. Bostons do well in townhouses or apartments as long as they get enough exercise.
