Borzoi

Description
The Borzoi also known as The Russian Wolfhound is a breed that was brought to Russian via Arabia somewhere in the 1600’s. This regal sight hound became the favored breed amongst the Russian nobility for hunting wolves…his skill, and ferocity in the hunt earned him the name Russian Wolfhound. In time the Borzoi became popular with the British aristocracy, and it is even said that Queen Victoria herself owned this elegant dog. The male Borzoi stands at least 28 in. tall and the female 26 in tall. Males weigh 75 to 105 lbs. and females 60 to 90 lbs. The Borzoi has a fairly long coat that is very soft. The colors are gray with black markings. Tan, White, or golden.
Temperament
This is not the family dog for the family that has small children in the home, but makes a fine companion dog or family dog for a family with older children. He is a hunter so other small animals in the house is not a good idea unless he has been socialized at a very early age…even then the neighbors cat will be in danger if your Borzoi gets off leash. He is free thinking as is the way with a lot of hounds and will need a firm pack leader for training and obedience.
Grooming/Exercise
With regular brushing and combing you should need to do little esle to keep the Borzoi’s coat healthy and free from snarls and debris. Bathing such a tall dog can pose a challenge, but going to a U-wash Dog wash would make things much easier. The Borzoi need lots of daily exercise long walks for one and a safe and secure place to run. They would make a fantastic jogging partner for the right owner. The Borzoi can live quite nicely in a townhouse or apartment as long as his exercise needs are met fully.
