Bolognese

Description

This charming little ball of fluff  is from Italy around the 11th or 12th century, and is descendant from a Bichon type dog. The Bolognese (pronounced Bole-oh-NESE) was very popular among the European Royalty. These compact, and hearty little dogs were often presented as gifts to Royalty, and were in more than one painting done by Titian and Goya. They were bred as companion dogs so are small in stature. They stand between 10 to 12 inches tall and weigh in at 4.5 to 9 pounds. They are as long as tall at the withers which makes them of a square body type. They are covered with a  woolly, white, long coat of fur which hangs about them in little ringlets….Truly and adorable little dog.

Temperament

The Bolognese is a  little on the reserved side, but seriously enjoys a close relationship with his owner. They get along well with other animals and display and even temperament with them. Friendly and fun loving the Bolognese will enjoy playing outdoors, but is not high energy indoors. He would do best with older children. Make no mistake you will still need to be pack leader with the Bolognese in order to avoid bad behavioural issues.

Grooming/Exercise

The Bolognese has a luxurious white woolly coat that will require daily brushing and combing to keep it free from matts and debris that it will inevitably pick up during the course of the day. Bathing when needed. The Bolognese will do well living in a townhouse or condominium as long as his exercise  needs are met with  daily walks along with play sessions in your local dog park. The Bolognese is relatively low energy indoors.
